Joseph Hyrum Lovell received his name because his parents, John Lovell and Leah Ellen Radford Lovell, were devout followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) and Joseph Hyrum was born to the Lovell Family about five weeks after the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum Smith of the LDS church were martyred in a mob attack in Carthage, Illinois, on June 27, 1884.
